Hot afternoons spent sipping vino blanco and perusing through air-conditioned venues, previewing art and vintage furniture for auction are my kind of adventures… Last Friday’s awe-inspired rendezvous had me oo’ing and ahh’ing all day long. From touching vintage Warhols to sitting in Frank Gehry’s pasta-inspired chairs to trying to wrap my head around the thought of spending $30,000 dollars on a 1920′s steel lamp…

Founded in 1992 by Peter Loughrey, Los Angeles Modern Auctions (LAMA) is the first auction house to specialize in selling 20th century Modern Art & Design. As an avid fan of modern art, I chose to play it different, and head to LAMA instead of my beloved LACMA and get a different feel for art and design.

LAMA holds up to four auctions a year, plus occasional exhibits that are open to the public. From the inquisitive observer (me) to the casual buyer and the most dedicated collector, LAMA welcomes all walks of life. Featuring prominent artists and designers such as Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Pablo Picasso, Alexander Calder, George Nakashima, Ettore Sottsass, Charles & Ray Eames, Paul Laszlo, and R.M. Schindler, to name a few, this place is the beez neez for creative culture. All I need now is a million dollars to purchase just a few things… xx
